Baby Keepsake Footprint

As a new parent or as family or a friend to a new parent you might be thinking about making a baby keepsake. Whether this is for fun or because you are really dedicated to creating a unique baby memory that you and the baby will be able to look back on in the years to come, there are several things that you will need to decide.

Babies are not just babies anymore. They have (for most parents) become the center of the universe and are therefore treated like there is no one else but them. This means that a lot of time and money are spent to please them, to give them the finest things the world can offer and to make sure that their baby years are memorable.

A perfect way to keep baby memories is by creating a baby keepsake and one of the most common are the baby keepsake footprint. This is not only a unique way to keep a memory but it is also fairly easy to do and it can be a lot of fun too.

Baby keepsake footprint – step-by-step guide

I’ve have tried to create a small step-by-step guide to help you create your very own baby footprint without too much hassle and without spending too much money and time.

The first thing you will need to do is to decide what type of baby keepsake footprint you would want to make. You have several options like a baby footprint print with the use of baby safe ink. You can create a clay memento of the baby foot or go buy a baby footprint kit.

Finally you have the option of using a professional that can make a baby keepsake footprint out of different materials like glass, stone and different types of metal (silver, gold etc.).

If you decide to go with the professional solution then the only thing you will need to do yourself is to find the person that can create it for you. My suggestion would be to go to Google and search for “Baby Keepsake Professional” or “Baby Footprint in Gold” or similar terms – all depending on what type of keepsake you want.

As I imagine that you’re here because you would like the much cheaper solution of doing the baby keepsake footprint yourself then here is what you could do. You have three options as I see it. First you can empty your drawers, closets and basement to find materials that you can use for this purpose.

I must admit that this is not for most people because you need to be aware that the materials you are to use MUST be baby safe! Hurting your baby by making a baby keepsake footprint using toxic ink or similar would be catastrophic.

Second option is to go to the store to find materials. Depending on where you live you might have a store around the corner or you may have to travel far to get it. It all depends…. But if you go to the store the people there are often great at helping you out and giving you some great advice on how to go about this project.

You must be aware that this solution might be a bit more expensive than the one that follows because as the store needs to make a living the prices will be somewhat higher than what you pay if you choose option three.

The third option is to buy a baby keepsake footprint kit online. Again I suggest that you go to Google to find what you’re looking for and my suggestion is that you do not just buy the first kit you stumble upon. Go do some research… See what is available and be sure to check that the kits are baby safe!

Now all you need to do (if you didn’t go for the professional solution) is get to work. Make this a fun time for both you and the baby and be sure to put some effort into it. A baby keepsake footprint can last for 10, 20 or 50 years so make sure that you do your best so that future generations can enjoy the work and effort you have put into it.

Baby Footprint

There are many ways that you can use a baby footprint and there are just as many ways that people (both parents and others) decide to put together a unique baby footprint. One of the more popular items that are constantly being created is the baby keepsake. Again this can come in many different colors, forms and sizes but they all have the same thing in common and that is to create a baby memento that will last for many years to come.

A baby footprint is used almost as often as a baby handprint. Both prints are fairly easy to create and you can do it from the comfort of your home if you choose to use some of the basic materials that are available through baby keepsake kits and similar all-in-a-box solutions. Now don’t get me wrong here because there is definitely nothing wrong with the do-it-yourself baby footprint solutions. They can be both unique, beautiful and worth having around for many years to come.

To find a solution like this you have several options available to you. You can visit a store selling children and baby toys or you can go online to find the solution that will fit your needs. Unfortunately there are not that many really good places online for baby footprint kits but there are a few of them and I will provide you with a list of them and why I think that they are worth a visit.

First of all there is the NexTag site. They hold a substantial amount of molding kits, baby shower cards and a lot of other items related to baby keepsakes and baby footprints. This is one of my favorite sites because of its size and the selection that it carries. It is not often that you will need to visit any other places if you have first been at their site.

The reason is that NexTag is a center that gathers items from many different resellers like RedEnvelope, Finestationary and Zaccardis. All of which is well known merchants for baby footprint items and a lot of other baby related items.

A similar site is the British site called BizRate. Like NexTag they have compiled a lot of online websites selling baby related items and that gives you the advantage that you are able to compare prices on the items that you are looking for.

Other sites that might be worth your time are sites like eBay, Amazon and Discovery. They are all multipurpose sites but they still have a wide selection of baby related products and you will mostly be able to find your baby footprint items at one of these sites.

Now there is another option that the do-it-yourself package and that is to go to a craftsman and have the baby footprint designed or molded for you. By using a professional craftsman your possibilities are almost limitless. They will be able to design a baby footprint in glass or in any kind of stone you find fitting. Some have even had their keepsakes made in pure silver or gold and it is in fact only your wallet that sets the limits of what can be made.

So when it comes to making (or having made) a baby footprint you have enough options to choose from to find one that fits your needs.

Baby Count Down Clock

Counting Down
People like great events and one method that is commonly used is counting down to that event. It can be counting months, days or even hours. So naturally a lot of “soon to be parents” counts towards the birth of their baby.

In these times where you can get almost everything you want; naturally someone has come up with the idea of a Baby Count Down Clock. No need to invent the wheel yourself but if you don’t want to go spend money on a fancy technical solution here are some ideas for creating your own Baby Count Down Clock.

Paper and Pencil
One of the simplest ways to count down is using a piece of paper and a pencil. Now you divide the paper into equal sized boxes representing the days left. You can hang it on the refrigerator or have it in a drawer. Every morning (or evening) you check off one of the boxes until the great day arrives.

While this may not be a fashionable solution, it works really well, doesn’t cost anything and will only take you a few minutes to do.

The Calendar
Using a calendar for keeping track of the time until your baby arrives is kind of the same as the paper and pencil approach. A calendar however will cost you a little (if you don’t already own one) but is also so much more exciting to look at.

You can find calendars in most supermarkets, bookstores, post offices etc. Online you’ll also be able to find a huge selection that will fit your every need. A great place to look for baby related items is on Amazon.com.

The Electronic Baby Count Down Clock
If you are spending a lot of your time in front of a computer you might want to have software based Baby Count Down Clocks. So what is it that a PC based clock can do that a calendar or paper version can not do? Well it is actually quite simple!

The little piece of software does it all for you. No need to check off any boxes, no need to design a layout and you can even have it play a little tune when the days arrives (might be a little silly though).

There are many websites selling different solutions and I must admit that I haven’t tried most of them. I am more into the calendar solution but that is just me.

Some of the sites selling these Baby Count Down Clocks are:

T-Minus Countdown Clock(tm) – Their solution comes with a little picture and a counter that will count the days, hours, minutes and even seconds. It can play a tune and it works with Microsoft Windows. The price is $9.99 and it comes with a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. Read more at their website.

Countdown Clock International, Inc. - If you are not using your computer and you are looking for a solution that is more like a normal alarm clock then CCI might have the solution for you.

They have designed a little Pregnancy Countdown Clock that will also count days, hours, minutes and seconds. The design is cute and it is easy to use. The great thing is that you can use it all the babies you are going to have and you can even let friends and relatives borrow the clock when you are not using it.

The cost is $24.95 and can be bought online from their shop.

Amazon.com – has a great solution also and even though is can do any more that the one from CCI, it cost far less. The price is around $9 and I must say I find that a reasonable price for such an item.
